Want proof that you should be careful with these "Van" dealerships? Read on:

Received 2/21/08 at 5:18 P.M. from Robb Billups in my voice mail:

I'm the General Manager over at Van Hyundai. It seems that your website is referring people over to my website. I'm a little concerned of why I'm on there. I'd like to know what your intentions are and why I'm put on there. I understand that you've had some problems with Van Chevrolet in the past, but that has nothing to do with me. I'd appreciate you returning my phone call. Thanks.

I asked my secretary to call him on 2/22/08 and tell him that I was out (I was), but that he could reach me via email (he could). Here is what he told her:

Based on [Darrell Cook's] integrity and history, I do not feel comfortable putting anything in writing. I have no idea what he might do with it. This is a 2 month-old dealership and I’m already getting slandered because he does not know how to buy a car. Please tell him that I will not go away and I will sue him and tie him up in Court.

I spoke to their lawyer at the end of the day 2/22/08 and let him know that I would not be calling Mr. Billups.  My guess is we won't be hearing from him again. But let me take this opportunity to publicly invite Mr. Billups to hire his lawyers and to sue me.  I am a litigator, a trial attorney. I spend my life "tied up in Court." What's one more?

I was especially tickled at the line "I’m already getting slandered because he does not know how to buy a car". Apparently the bait and switch pulled on me by Van Chevrolet is my fault, not theirs. I am the rube, not them. Yeah, sue me and tell that to a jury.

If you buy from Van Hyundai you are nuts, in my humble opinion.

Today (March 3, 2008) was a Van Hyundai intensive day:

First, Mr. Billups and I spoke mid-afternoon and the gist of that conversation is that Mr. Billups believes that I am not "productive" and that this website is not "biblical" and that I was lacking the Christian virtue of forgiveness.  To that I would say that Van Chevrolet is completely forgiven in my eyes.  But Mr. Billups confuses forgiveness with mercy. Forgiveness does not mean that there are no consequences for a bad act.  The consequence for the Bait and Switch visited upon me is this web site.  I harbor no ill-will. What is reported here is either a factual recitation of what happened or my opinion about what happened.  Nothing else.  As we were discussing these points Mr. Billups again threatened me with litigation and then hung up on me.

I should also note that Mr. Billups asked me to remove the link at the top of this page to his web site.  I told him that I felt the Taubman doctrine required the link, but that if he would send me a written request to take the link down, I would remove the hyper link to their site.  As of now I have not received the written request, so it is still in place.

Then very late in the day I received a call from a  former employee of Van Hyundai's by the name of John Erwin. While he had many bad things to say about Van Hyundai, he made the following very clear:

bulletEvery Saturday morning they put an ad in the paper for a vehicle that is not actually available for sale.  I confirmed that with him and he said "That is correct." 
bulletHe still has the advertising that advertises vehicles that are shown very cheap but which are not on the lot for sale.
bulletHe quit because of the "mental abuse" allegedly heaped on him by Mr. Billups and others.
bulletApparently Mr. Billups told all the sales people to call my office for the simple purpose of overloading our phones.  If they did this, I am unaware of it.  
bulletAlso, it appears that their Sales Manager quit because of Mr. Billups "philosophy".  Mr. Billups seems to be short-fused, at least according to Mr. Erwin.
